The Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Relations, Minister Ilse Aigner, and the Federal Minister for Science and Education, Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, agreed to be patrons for the Fascination of Plants Day 2013. With this step both ministers express their high support “to intensify the perception of the public on the central role of plants for mankind and environment” and “to illustrate the importance of plants and plants sciences for the future - to the public and especially to young people”.

Tanzania joins the 'Fascination of Plants Day 2013' with Catherine Njuguna as the National Coordinator. She is from the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), East African Hub and is their Corporate Regional Communication Officer. IITA in Tanzania will inaugurate their brand new science building in Dar es Salaam with a lot of prominent guests on May 13th 2013. 16.11.2012 | The "Fascination of Plants Day" 18 May 2013 is officially launched to the public worldwide
Sending out press information all over the Fascination of Plants Day participating countries, the plant community, media and the public prepare for this major event.
The "Fascination of Plants Day" 2013 has been already adopted by 39 countries worldwide and the number is growing. The initiative, launched by the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), is supported by a network of national coordinators who volunteer their time to promote and disseminate the activity within their countries. Many of the over 580 scientific institutions, universities, botanical gardens, and museums that organized events for the 1st Fascination of Plants Day, 18.5.2012, will open their doors again and the number of countries of institutions for 2013 is growing.
Confirmed countries for 2013 are already: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, South-Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, Ukraine, Uruguay and USA.

Choon-Hwan Lee, President of the Korean Society of Plant Biologists (KSPB), announced to be happy that Korea will join for the first time Fascination of Plants day for 2013. KSPB and the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) already decided to participate and organise events in South-Korea.

George N. Skaracis, Professor at the Department of Crops Sciences, Agricultural University of Athens, confirms that Greece will again organise events for the Fascination of Plants Day 2013 and that he will continue to be the National Coordinator for Greece in 2013. This will an important activity in his country highlighting the important role and potential of agriculture in Greece.

José-Pío Beltrán, Professor of Research at the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) currently working at the Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas, is proud to confirm that Spain will be again a very active country for the Fascination of Plants Day 2013 and that he will continue to be the National Coordinator for Spain in 2013. As of today 01.09.2012, Professor Trine Hvoslef-Eide from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences trine.hvoslef-eide@umb.no, jointly with Karin Metzlaff, Executive Director of EPSO, took over as the overall Coordinators for the ‘Fascination of Plants Day’ on 18.05.2013. We would like to thank Jan Kellmann, Karin Metzlaff (overall coordinators), Stefan Pigur and Ronald Hirt (designer and webmaster), the 39 National coordinators and over 580 organisers of events around the world for their creative work and events for the First Fascination of Plants Day this May 2012. It was truly an astonishing around-the-world happening which we all were proud to be part of. When we start this adventure for next year, we are happy to build on the success they put into ploughing novel grounds.

The European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO) decides to launch the second International "Fascination of Plants Day" for 18 May 2013 appreciating the key role plants have on this plant for any kind of life - including mankind.
At their annual General Meeting in Copenhagen the members of EPSO decided concordantly to support and organize the FoPD as a result of the very successful FoPD 2012 and the unprecedented interest, support and participation from the public this first event already generated.
